Tompkins County Celebrates America Recycles Day November 15th

Monday, November 3, 2014

“Hey… R you gonna recycle that?”

November 15th is America Recycles Day (ARD), the only nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling and waste reduction in the U.S.  Residents in Tompkins County are recycling more than ever before, as the County moves toward a goal of 75% waste diversion by 2016.

The Solid Waste Division is encouraging residents to learn more about its Food Scraps Recycling Program by visiting one of the new drop spot locations November 15th and 16th. Food Scraps Recycling allows residents to further reduce waste and save money on disposal costs. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and promote food waste prevention, while providing samples of finished compost from Cayuga Compost in Trumansburg.

Additionally, in support of the first statewide textile recycling campaign, clothing donations will be collected at each of the drop spots. Residents can also bring unwanted items such as shoes, belts, purses, blankets, towels, sheets and pillowcases, and drapes. All material should be placed in clear plastic bags. The drop spot locations and hours are:
